Deep Pectoral Myopathy. Muscle is starved of oxygen and dies. Usually in fast grown chickens. Price you pay for cheap food.

Looks like green muscle, basically just a bruise that turns green from lack of oxygen – it’s not dangerous but is aesthetically displeasing

I don’t think I would be eating chicken again for a while.

I don’t eat much chicken anymore. Too many weird things happening to chicken meat now. Plus the way they handle the chickens AND THE EMPLOYEES at chicken processing plants is horrible.

As this is part of my job, that is what we in the industry call green muscle syndrome aka Deep Pectoral Myopathy. Happens in Birds bred for large breasts. At some point in that Bird’s life it flapped its wings so hard that the breast swelled and cut off circulation to the inner part of the breast, leading to the death of that tissue.
All surrounding tissue is still safe to eat. Usually bird carcasses that have DPM usually don’t get sold as whole birds. The DPM is. It out and the rest is used for other applications such as being ground into deli meat.
I will also add most birds that suffer DPM do not outwardly show any ill effects. You really can’t identify DPM until the bird has been slaughtered

Oh this is Green Muscle Disease!
Tends to happen in rapidly growing poultry breeds (so like broiler chickens) when they’re flapping at stuff or at each other, so usually in crowded or other stressful conditions where they might be squabbling. The sudden activity causes swelling against the fascia and local ischemia in the deep pectoral muscles, so you get muscle necrosis. The green color comes from biliverdin. It’s technically safe to eat (i.e. not bacteria) but probably pretty gross.

The Jungle taught me to not eat the green meat and to regulate food industry because they will feed you rancid food.

Green muscle disease, it’s a real thing. I swear I’ve seen a post about it on reddit before. I think you can still eat it but I personally wouldn’t
You should let them know this may be something that affects all the chickens culled on that date.
